Old Street Markers Still Visible On Some Richmond, Indiana Homes

This home, located at the SE corner of South 6th and B Streets still has inlaid stone (address)  inserts. Before the street names in Richmond Indiana were changed in 1881, this home’s address was Marion Street #91. Marion Street was changed to 6th Street and Market Street was changed to South B Street.

Marion Street house marker c: 1867.

South 6th & B Streets.

This historic home  at South 4th & D Streets has a corner marker. The marker (appears to be metal construction) has almost rusted away. The address is marked “S. 4th  Street” which would indicate this marker is c: 1881 or after. (After the street names  were changed). Fourth Street was  known as  ”Front” Street previous to 1881, and  South D Street was called “Vine” Street.

Do you know of any other Richmond homes that have street markers  affixed to  their corners?

Very interesting, Dan. I’ve been by those homes many times and never noticed the markers. Thanks for the info!
