Restaurants from the past

The Tiny Diner was located at South 9th and M Streets (near Hibberd School, in the lot adjacent to the Glass Company).

Elizabeth Parker’s Restaurant was located between South 16th and 17th Streets, on Main

The Coffee Pot Restaurant was located on U.S. 40, near Pennville Rd., Indiana  (Western Wayne County)

Lowes Fine Foods

I believe the Lowes Restaurant was located near  today’s intersection of  Interstate 70 & U.S. 40, in Richmond Indiana. A Lowes Home Improvement store is now situated in this immediate area as well…a connection in the namesakes? Probably not :-)

Lowes Maid Rite

Dinnies was located on U.S. 40 East, between the Rex Appliance Store & Dominos Pizza

An old Main Street Diner (Winzer’s) —Hamburgers for a nickel! (I believe the Courthouse Annex now occupies this block?)

If you have photos of old Richmond/Wayne County Indiana  restaurants that you would like to share, send them  to me and I will post the photos here.

  • Where is the oldest continually operated restaurant in America?

“At 183 years old, Union Oyster House in Boston claims the title of America’s oldest continuously run establishment”.

One Response to Restaurants from the past

    Dan,
You probably do not remember me, but you helped me look for a home to rent for my stepson some time back.

I enjoyed the pictures, especially the one of the Tiny Dinner. I remember my mother bragging about their hamburgers when I was a kid.

I was wondering if you might remember a little Italian restaurant that used to sit in the area of what now sits Mancino’s? They had the best lasagna I have ever eaten, but for the life of me I can not remember the name of the place.
