Thomas W. Bennett was; a  Governor of Idaho, (appointed by President U.S. Grant), A Delegate to the U.S. Congress from Idaho, A General during the Civil War, An Indiana State Senator, Twice the Mayor of Richmond,  and a  Professor. He  practiced law in Richmond & Liberty, Indiana, and was  one of the  original organizers of the Republican Party.

He was buried at Earlham Cemetery.
